End of Term Three Message to Our High School Community
As Term Three comes to an end, it’s a fitting time to reflect on our progress and refocus our energy ahead of the final chapter of the school year. We commend our students for the hard work, resilience, and community spirit they’ve shown so far, and thank all staff and families for their continued support.
Academic Focus: Setting Up for Success
Term Four is crucial in determining academic outcomes. Whether students are preparing for final assessments, external exams, or transitioning to their next year level, this is the time to consolidate knowledge, sharpen skills, and aim high.
We urge all students to maintain focus, set clear academic goals, and take full advantage of the resources and support available — including revision sessions, teacher consultations, and study planning. The habits formed now will directly influence final results and can open doors to future pathways, including subject selections, QCE success, and post-school options.
Let’s remember success is not just about talent — it’s about effort, consistency, and commitment.
Attendance Matters More Than Ever
To support strong academic achievement, attendance is critical. Every lesson missed is a learning opportunity lost. Whether it’s classroom teaching, hands-on activities, or exam preparation, being present ensures students don’t fall behind.
We’re asking families and students to make school attendance a top priority in Term Four. Unless a student is genuinely unwell, they should be at school and engaged in learning. Let’s finish the year strong, together.
Summer Uniform Expectations
As we move into warmer months, a reminder that our uniform policy remains in place and must be followed. Wearing the correct school uniform reflects personal pride and respect for our school values.
Key reminders:
- Uniform should be clean, neat, and worn correctly always.
- Hats are required for outdoor activities, in line with our SunSmart policy.
- Only approved school jumpers or jackets may be worn.
- Jewellery and footwear must comply with school guidelines.
Uniform isn’t just about appearance — it’s about showing that we belong to a community with shared standards and pride in who we are.
Looking Ahead
Term Four is a time of focus, determination, and celebration. It’s our chance to bring the year to a successful close — academically, personally, and as a school community.
But before we dive into the final stretch, we encourage all students and families to enjoy a well-deserved two-week holiday. Take time to rest, recharge, and return ready to give your best.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to an exciting and successful Term Four.
Lou Oberholzer
Principal
On Friday 19th September, the school’s SRC and Support Team having organised our Wilsonton Way Day in recognition of R U OK Day.
Normal classes will occur in period 1 and 2.
In period 3, students will watch a Talent Show showcasing the unique talents of our students.
In period 4, students will meet in the hall for the Pegasus Draw before having the opportunity to participate in the school’s Colour Fun Run on the oval.
This is a great way to finish the term for students and for students to get involved.
A letter with relevant information has been sent home with students to all families and hardcopies are available at the office.
Year 11 Performance Interviews
Once the current reporting cycle closes and Unit 2 grades are available for review early next term, students whose academic attainment has been below par will be interviewed about options moving forward.
In some cases, this will entail subject changes and course restructures, this will be the last opportunity for students to restructure their course of study. There will be no changes once students have commenced Unit 3. For others, particularly those at risk of not attaining a QCE, there will be some hard conversations as to exactly what they need to do to improve their performance so as to reclaim the opportunity to graduate with a QCE.
Also, unfortunately, it will mean that some students who have not been attending school with the required regularity and/or whose report card shows failing grades coupled with unacceptable effort and behaviour outcomes, will be required to show cause as to why their enrolment should not be cancelled. Transitional opportunities will be offered to any students who find themselves in the situation of having their enrolment cancelled.

Wilsonton SHS Together for Humanity Youth Summit Team
Wilsonton State High School Youth Summit Team
On Thursday 28th August, a team of 8 Wilsonton SHS students took part in the Together For Humanity Youth Summit at the QLD Parliament House Brisbane. The Summit, created by Together For Humanity and supported by the Federal Department of Education, was a platform for students to voice their ideas around intercultural diversity, inclusion and community cohesion to fellow participants, politicians, and leaders. The students prepared a presentation around the theme of Bridging to the Future: Navigating identity and differences together, selecting the topic of raising awareness on the challenges of the school population speaking over 20 different languages as a first language - a creative presentation which generated loud applause from all those present when it concluded.
There were 14 schools in attendance from Queensland & Northern Territory, with a diverse range of topics that showed what was close to the hearts of the students and their communities. Seeing the students confidently present and share their ideas on complex social issues, was inspiring!
Students were welcomed to Yuggera country by Derek Oram-Sandy, and heard from John-Paul Langbroek, QLD Minister for Education and the Arts, and Jason Clare MP, Federal Minister for Education.
The Wilsonton team displayed teamwork, leadership and dedication during the preparation of the presentation prior to the Summit Day. We trust the Summit is a catalyst for action out in the world & positive change at school. We are looking forward to the possibility of more Wilsonton SHS students being involved in a similar event based in Toowoomba, in the future.
The member for Toowoomba North Mr Trevor Watts also took the opportunity on the day to take the Wilsonton team from an impromptu tour of various other parts of Queensland parliament house, during the day.

As the School Based Youth Health Nurse, I work with the school community to promote health and wellbeing, create a supportive, healthy school environment and connect people with other support services. With holidays starting at the end of the week, it’s a good time to think about our general health. It can be a good time to book those appointments to see the Doctor and the Dentist.
Simple ways we can maintain our general health is to:
Nutrition: Remember to eat regularly and have a balanced diet, going without food for long periods during the day is damaging to our bodies.
Exercise: While holidays are a time to have a break and reset it is still recommended around 60 minutes of physical activity a day. Whether it’s walking, dancing, sport or any other activity you enjoy.
Sleep: Maintaining a regular sleep routine and having good sleep hygiene helps our bodies
Oral Hygiene: Brushing our teeth twice a day and flossing, usually after breakfast and before going to bed helps maintain our oral health. Free public dental care with no out-of-pocket cost is offered to all children until the end of year 12. Through free public dental care or the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). Regular dental check-ups (usually every 6 to 12 months) are important to keep teeth, gums and mouth healthy.
Personal Hygiene: Having a shower at least once a day, washing your hair at least once or twice a week. Every day remember to change your clothes especially underwear and use deodorant.
Sun Safety: The UV index has started to rise again, a reminder to be sun safe. Wear a hat, use sunscreen and seek shade when needed.
Have Fun: Do things you enjoy over the holidays, it helps maintain our mental health. Meet up with friends, find a hobby, go to the movies, spend time with your family, play games or go to the park or library. There are so many things to do, check out the Toowoomba Regional Council website for more ideas www.tr.qld.
Pathways to Cessation
The Pathways to Cessation program is delivered by health professionals at the Queensland Quitline service and combines information and counselling support with a free 12-week supply of nicotine replacement products such as patches, gum, and lozenges. A reminder here at Wilsonton SHS we are working in partnership with Queensland Health, so members of our school community can access a free quit support program for parents, carers, siblings.
If you’d like to find out ‘what to expect from Quitline’ or request a call visit the QuitHQ website at https://www.quithq.initiatives.qld.gov.au/how-to-quit/get-help-from-quitline. Students can access the program by contacting Quitline directly.
